US Open takes place at Winged Foot

June is the time of the year that the US Open takes place. It is one of the four major championships. This year's event will take place at Winged Foot from June 15 to 18 at Winged Foot Golf club in New York.

The event will be as exciting as ever with Tiger Woods returning to play in a tournament for the first time since The Masters Tournament as a result of his father's illness and death.

Having won the PGA Championship last year, and The Masters Tournament this year, Phil Mickelson will be looking the third Major championship in a row.

However, the real winner this year could be Winged Foot Golf Club. If the course set up is difficult, then the winning score could be over par. In 1974 when Hale Irwin won the US Open at Winged Foot, his winning score was 7-over par.

With the advancement of golf equipment since then, and the USGA's desire to have the winning score as close to par as possible, this year could see a very difficult course set up again, with very few players under par.
