〈Tiger Woods wins 50th tournament〉

With his victory at the Buick Open, Tiger Woods now has 50 victories to his credit, becoming the youngest player ever to do so at 30 years of age. He shot four straight rounds of 66 to finish at 24-under and beat Jim Furyk by three shots. Tiger Woods also made 28 birdies in the tournament, which is a new record for him.

After Tiger missed the cut at the US Open, some people began to doubt his ability to continue to play at such a high level, but that doubt disappeared at the British Open, where he successfully defended his title at Hoylake in Liverpool, England.

What was more amazing about his win at the British Open was the fact that he only used his driver once during the four rounds. The rest of the time he played his tee shots with a long iron or fairway wood, proving that distance is not the most important factor to win golf tournaments.

The win at the British Open was his eleventh in a Major Championship, and he is now more than halfway towards breaking Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 Major Championships. Nicklaus won his last Major Championship at the age of 46, so the 30-year old Tiger Woods still has time on his side.

So now we look forward to the PGA Championship, which takes place at Medinah Country Club. No doubt, Tiger Woods is the favorite, but he will be teeing it up against 155 other players. Who do you think will win?

On a separate note, congratulations should go to Japan's Hideto Tanihara for his 5th place finish at the British Open. No doubt this experience helped him to his victory at the Sun Chlorella Classic in Japan, and now he finds himself leading the Japan Golf Tour Money List. Tanihara could very well be the star to revitalize the Japan Golf Tour
